September 15, 2011 Leave a comment

And Gerald continues to stay consistent. Enjoy a new Cardo produced jam entitled “It’s All Real,” off Gerald Walker’s “The Other Half of Letting Go.” Hit the jump for the projects official tracklist. Go on and appreciate quality music from one of Chicago’s most promising voices.

In an industry full of fake images and identities, Gerald Walker makes sure to remind everyone of just how real he is. The second single, “It’s All Real” (Prod. by Cardo), off of his latest mixtape “The Other Half of Letting Go,” definitely sets the record straight.

In this smooth track he harmonizes on the chorus about being real to who he is as he sings “It’s all real, what you see/It’s all real, I do this all for me.”

After appearing on MTV’s Rap Fix Live Anniversary Show yesterday, Mr. Walker is making sure to give his fans exactly what they need. He is moving in the right direction and hopes that everyone else will come along for the ride.

“It’s All Real,” follows the release of his video, “The Missing Piece,” and his other single “Please, Shut the F*** Up.” He is pushing fans to the edge of their seats as they wait for the release of T.O.H.O.L.G, which is set to drop next week Tuesday.

PremRock & Willie Green announce the release of “Diary Of A Dreamer”

August 16, 2011 Leave a comment

New York emcee PremRock and producer Willie Green have combined forces for a full length album, set for a Sept. 28th release date. The frequent collaborators have inked a deal with Isolated Wax Records for the self-titled album, which will boast guest features including C-Rayz Walz, Soul Khan, Open Mike Eagle and Has-Lo.

The two met at a New York City open mic in 2009 and worked together to record, mix and master Prem’s debut album “the build.” The record went on to gain considerable buzz in New York City as well as overseas as Prem completed a self-booked tour throughout 17 cities in Europe from London to Istanbul the Spring of 2011.

As for Green, few can match Willie’s prolific output The former standout drummer and Berklee College of Music graduate traded in his sticks for a drum machine, all the while turning in an impressive discography and laundry list of production credits over the past few years. Whether crafting a concept instrumental album such as “…Of Heroes and Villains” or working with both knowns and unknowns on production features, Willie indelibly leaves his mark on a listener’s ear.

Prem and Green will be following the release with an international tour, with US dates beginning late September and European dates in October. The duo provides a live stage show that will capture the energy of the record, with Prem on vocals and Green playing the beats live via drum machine.

The Wrongguy: Welcome To The Wrong Side (Artwork)

August 15, 2011 Leave a comment

COMING SOON!

“Welcome To The Wrong Side” is the debut mixtape from Cleveland duo The Wrongguys. It is entirely produced by The Wrongguys’s M. Stacks and will feature a “who’s who” list of MC’s in the game right now. “Welcome To The Wrong Side” is an accurate reflection of their gritty, street-wise sound. M. Stacks provides a more hard-edged style of production than that of his previous work. The mixtape showcases Skean’s signature multisyllabic rhyme style with lyric topics ranging from Mafioso, materialism, bragadocio, to love. This mixtape is characterized by grimy soul samples, crispy drum loops, and creative wordplay. The project is presented by two of the biggest co-signers in the game, Roc Nation’s Mick Boogie, and Terry Urban.

J Rawls: The Hip-Hop Affect (Artwork x Tracklist) x Best Producer on the Mic Feat. Diamond D, Oh No & Kev Brown

April 7, 2011 Leave a comment

Ohio’s own J Rawls knows a thing or two about Hip-Hop. The famed producer/emcee has been living the culture for as long as he can remember, even before his first productions began circulating in the early 90s. “I remember taking the laces out of my first pair of Shelltoes and my parents looking at me like I was crazy. I remember Hip-Hop being a breath of fresh air,” says Rawls. Later, J Rawls helped launch the independent Hip-Hop explosion of the late 90s by producing “Brown Skin Lady” and “Yo Yeah” from Mos Def and Talib Kweli’s seminal debut album as Black Star. He went on to anchor Lone Catalysts, one of the most acclaimed early independent rap groups, and release an acclaimed solo album, The Essence Of J Rawls, in 2001. Now, more than a decade after his last solo Hip-Hop album, J Rawls is proud to present The Hip-Hop Affect, which will be in stores everywhere on May 17th, 2011.

Featuring appearances from Rhymefest, Sadat X, Tanya Morgan, J Sands (of Lone Catalysts), Copywrite, Bad Azz, Edo G, Stalley, Casual, Count Bass D, Wise Intelligent (of Poor Righteous Teachers), El Da Sensei, John Robinson, and more, The Hip-Hop Affect tells the story of how Rawls grew with hip-hop as hip-hop itself continued to grow. Born out of a dialog with his son, THHA explores Rawls’ personal journey from Columbus to Cincinnati to cities all over the world, as well as Hip-Hop’s journey from block parties to MTV to total ubiquity. “We walk, talk, and think Hip-Hop because we are Hip-Hop,” explains Rawls. “We birthed it, created it, and reared it. As with any child, we don’t like every change that we see Hip-Hop make, but we stick with it because we love it.”

While Hip-Hop has clearly been an important part of Rawls’ life, the past decade has seen him expanding his musical horizons. He delved into neo-soul and jazz with The Essence Of Soul and The Liquid Crystal Project, and released collaborative albums with Ohio vocalist Middle Child and Stones Throw crooner/rapper Dudley Perkins. All the while, production work for El Da Sensei, Masta Ace, Wordsworth, Beastie Boys, Count Bass D and others has kept Rawls connected to his roots. Now, he’s ready to make a full return to Hip-Hop, and with that comes an opportunity to reflect. “This album tells the story of Hip-Hop and the affect it’s had on my life,” he explains. “I really want to get people to ask themselves, How has Hip-Hop affected your life?”

DJ Deadeye Feat. Chaundon, O-Dash & Big Pooh: Just In Case x Substance Abuse (Artwork x Tracklist)

February 28, 2011 Leave a comment

One of the staple forces behind Termanology’s ST. Da Squad, DJ Deadeye has been waiting patiently for his turn in the spotlight. Many already know the Puerto Rican-born, Massachusetts-raised Deadeye (born Dustin Hernandez) as Termanolgy’s DJ, but he’s spent the last six-years quietly building an impressive resume that goes far beyond just his inner circle. Having released multiple critically acclaimed mix tapes and touring extensively in the U.S. and internationally, opening for artists such as Kanye West, Ghostface Killah, M.O.P., DJ Premier and others, Deadeye has made a name for himself in the industry off the strength of his achievements with others. But in 2011, he’s ready to step to the forefront with his official debut album on Brick Records in collaboration with his own ST. Records imprint, Substance Abuse.

As executive producer, Deadeye crafts the album from top to bottom, assembling a fearsome cast of talent from across the hip hop spectrum, including Termanology, Cormega, Trife Diesel, Steele from Smif N Wesson, MC Esoteric, Reks, Big Rapper Pooh, Slaine, Reef the Lost Cauze, Skyzoo, Blacastan, ST. Da Squad and many others, with production from Statik Selektah (1982), DC the Midi Alien (East Coast Avengers), Arabian Knight, Moss, J. Cardim, Lee Bannon, MGI and Deadeye himself. Led by singles from Freddie Foxxx, Panchi (NYG’Z) & Big Shug (“Had It Comin’”) and Slaine, Esoteric, Krumbsnatcha & Ea$y Money (“Livin’ Lost”), Deadeye delivers a disc full of raw, exciting hip-hop that, despite its many contributors, remains an album with his own distinctive stamp on it.

DJ Deadeye’s debut, “Substance Abuse,” will be released on 3-22-2011 in conjunction with Brick/ST. Records and you can catch him at SxSW and on tour worldwide all throughout 2011 with Brick label mates 1982 (Statik Selektah & Termanology) and REKS.
